  17.         DESCRIPTION 
  18.         ===========

  20.              LAST is a versatile multi-drive file and text locator/manager. 
  21.         It quickly locates files by date, name, size and text.  It will 
  22.         take any input of drive(s), directory, and filename, and display 
  23.         the files it finds in chronological order.  This type of display 
  24.         is particularly useful:  more often than not, the file you are 
  25.         seeking was created or modified recently. 
  26.          
  27.              The program allows you to perform a wide variety of functions 
  28.         on these files.  It can view, search, sort, tag, move, delete, 
  29.         rename, and copy files to another disk.  In just one step, LAST can 
  30.         start up an application program and load a selected file into it. 
  31.         It also shows your disk's directory structure with disk space usage, 
  32.         and a menu of your directories.  These advanced features, and others, 
  33.         require only one keystroke to perform.

  35.         INSTALLATION 
  36.         ============ 
  37.              To install LAST, copy all its files to a directory listed in 
  38.         the DOS search path.  For instance, if you have a directory named 
  39.         C:\UTIL where you put utility programs, type the following command: 
  40.          
  41.                    COPY A:\*.* C:\UTIL 
  42.          
  43.         (This assumes your floppy is in drive A:.  Use B: if appropriate.) 
  44.          
  45.              You can also choose to create your own directory.  If you do, 
  46.         include that directory in the search path. 
  47.          
  48.              If you're not sure where to put LAST, copy it to C:\DOS. 
  49.          
  50.          
  51.         DEMO  !!!!!!

  53.              The demo is a short introductory tour of LAST's main features. 
  54.         This is the quickest way to become familiar with LAST.  To begin 
  55.         the demo, type DEMO and press the <Enter> key.

  62.         STARTUP 
  63.         ======= 
  64.              At the C: prompt, type LAST and press the <Enter> key. 
  65.         LAST will display its logo while it reads your disk.  It then 
  66.         displays a list of files in chronological order, the most 
  67.         recent file appearing first.  Many options are now available to you; 
  68.         the Help Screen summarizes these options.  Press H (or the F1 key) 
  69.         to see the Help Screen.  For detailed instructions, read the 
  70.         MANUAL.LAS file by pressing R.  The manual is fifteen pages 
  71.         long -- we suggest you print it out by typing the following 
  72.         command at the C: prompt:

  77.         SUGGESTED USES 
  78.         ============== 
  79.          
  80.         1.  Find a file when you don't remember its name.  All you need is 
  81.             the file's approximate date, or a portion of text within it. 
  82.          
  83.         2.  Find a file when you don't remember its drive or directory but 
  84.             do know its name or part of its name.  Unlike most "WHEREIS" 
  85.             programs, LAST will not return to the C: prompt.  Instead you 
  86.             can perform viewing, searching, sorting, copying, etc. on any 
  87.             files found. 
  88.          
  89.         3.  Load a selected file into your word processor, spreadsheet, 
  90.             or other application program. 
  91.          
  92.         4.  Load a selected file into Microsoft Windows(tm).  Windows(tm) 
  93.             will determine which application created the file, open that 
  94.             application program, and load the file. 
  95.          
  96.         5.  Maneuver around your hard disk easily using LAST's directory menu. 
  97.          
  98.         6.  Select any directory or subdirectory by typing its name without 
  99.             its drive or parent directory. 
  100.          
  101.         7.  Copy the day's work to a floppy disk. 
  102.          
  103.         8.  Find out how many files have changed since the last full backup, 
  104.             and how many megabytes they occupy. 
  105.          
  106.         9.  Use LAST as a replacement for the DOS DIR command.

  112.         REGISTRATION 
  113.         ============ 
  114.              LAST is the last navigational tool you'll need for your PC. 
  115.         It is feature-rich, easy to learn, and simple to operate. 
  116.          
  117.              LAST is a user supported (shareware) product.  It is not 
  118.         public domain, nor is it free software.  You may use this 
  119.         product during a 30-day trial period without obligation.  If you 
  120.         use LAST after the trial period, you must register by sending $25 
  121.         to Integrated Consulting, PO Box 1613, San Juan Cap, CA  92693.

  123.              To print an order form:  after changing to the directory where
  124.         you installed LAST, type REGISTER at the DOS prompt. 
  125.          
  126.              Registered users will receive:  (1) a diskette with a copy 
  127.         of the latest version of LAST and (2) update notices.  All users 
  128.         receive phone support at 800-272-1377, 9am to 6pm Pacific Time.

  157.              The maximum number of files depends on the amount of 
  158.         available RAM.   12,500 files fit in 600K; 10,000 fit in 500K.
